You can kind of read between the lines, and you can kind of figure out what had happened, or at least I thought I knew what she went through, but when she finally reveals what happened, I wanted to cry so badly. The reasons behind her pain are hidden even from the reader, which was something I truly enjoyed. She appears to be a very happy, very courageous woman, but she’s hiding a pain so big that I was surprised no one saw it behind her mask and her eccentric nature. She has this aura about her that I feel like you can’t ignore. I loved her since the first scene she’s in, when she jumps in the lake to retrieve her hat. Loving Lily for me felt kind of like I was being hit by a train. But with my squad I managed to do just fine. I don’t know how long this duology would have stayed on my shelf, untouched, had I been alone, because I was terrified of picking it up. I have to say, I had the courage to read this book because I was buddy reading it with Ash and Bee.
